The North Face Technology

The North Face brand takes its name from the coldest and harshest face of a mountain. But the legend of The North Face® begins, ironically, on a beach.

The first The North Face store opens in San Francisco's North Beach neighborhood, just 50 meters above sea level.

In 1966, two hiking enthusiast friends decided to follow their dreams and opened a small mountaineering retail store.

Soon, this small store became known as The North Face, a retailer of high-performance climbing and backpacking equipment.

In 1968, The North Face moved across the San Francisco Bay to the endless opportunity Berkeley area and began designing and manufacturing its own brand of technical mountaineering clothing and equipment.

Later, The North Face brand began to be followed by outdoor athletes and sponsored expeditions to the most remote, still untouched corners of the world.

In the 1980s, The North Face expanded its product range. It also adds extreme ski equipment to its products and its awareness reaches wider audiences.

All of these provide the necessary foundations for today's free-spirited winter sports athletes.

By the late '80s, The North Face became the only supplier in America offering a comprehensive collection of high-performance outerwear, ski wear, sleeping bags , backpacks and tents .

In the 1990s, the product diversity increased further and the brand became more visible at many sporting events. Enters the sportswear market with the launch of Tekware™.

Towards the millennium, he introduced his own trekking and trail-running shoe collection.

Now, more than 50 years after its humble opening, The North Face's line of performance clothing, equipment and footwear has become the number one choice for the world's most accomplished climbers, mountaineers, extreme skiers, snowboarders, endurance runners and explorers.

In the coming years, The North Face will not stop pushing the boundaries of design to enable you to push your outdoor limits. Never Stop Exploring.

Technologies Used by The North Face

Futurelight™, Thermoball, Flashdry, Goose Down Filling, Gore-Tex, Dryvent, Primaloft, Polartec, TKA, Apex Flex, Windstopper, Windwall, Xtra Foam, Ventrix, Fuseform.

FutureLight

It is the largest product innovation initiative the brand has adopted to date.

A critical component of this is Nano-weaving, a unique yarn development process that enables revolutionary new breathable-waterproof membrane technology.

It is a slim and agile product that provides the necessary protection against the harshest weather conditions and offers maximum comfort.

Thermoball

The North Face™ has teamed up with Primaloft® to develop a new synthetic alternative to down.

Thermoball™ is a revolution in insulation technology.

Unlike traditional, synthetic insulations, Primaloft fill consists of tight clusters similar to goose down; traps heat in small pockets of air to maintain temperature.

FlashDry

FlashDry™ fabric technology has been developed to act as a second skin, pushing moisture to the surface of the fabric and removing it as quickly as possible, keeping the wearer dry, cool and comfortable during strenuous aerobic activities.

FlashDry

Goose Feather Filling

The North Face® products are insulated using exclusive, high-fill down from 550 to 900 fill, representing the highest quality down available on the market.

The North Face® offers superior warmth and comfort with its goose down filling. Products containing goose down are both lightweight and insulating.

Gore-Tex

The North Face® works with GORE-TEX® to deliver the industry's most innovative, high-performance waterproof, windproof and breathable protection against the elements.

Gore-tex is waterproof, breathable and protected against rain and snow. Ideal for skiing and climbing.

The North Face uses 3 special fabric technologies in its products :

  • GORE-TEX® Performance Shell
  • Waterproof GORE-TEX® Pro Shell Layers
  • Waterproof GORE-TEX® Paclite® Shell.

Dryvent

DryVent™ fabrics are developed to be completely waterproof, windproof and breathable.

A durable water-repellent coating is applied to the outer fabric of the garment, which helps remove water from the surface by collecting water in droplets.

Every multi-layered garment is designed to allow water vapor to escape from the inside.

primaloft

The North Face® thermal clothing uses natural and synthetic insulation to retain heat in cold weather.

POLARTEC® THERMAL PRO

POLARTEC® CLASSIC SERIES

POLARTEC® ECO

TKA

TKA (Thermal Kinetic Advancement) Polar are proprietary fabrics developed by The North Face® with superior insulation and abrasion resistance.

The products use TKA fleece in three different weights and TKA Superstretch fabric, which is perfect for aerobic activities.

TKA 100

TKA 200

TKA 300

TKA SUPERSTRETCH

Apex Flex GTX

Featuring a waterproof Gore-Tex® membrane and a soft, knitted inner fabric face, this durable, stretch-woven shell is breathable and fully waterproof.

Windstopper

WINDSTOPPER® Soft Shell offers full wind protection and maximum breathability, combining the comfort of a soft midlayer and the water resistance of a shell layer in one product.

WINDSTOPPER® Soft Shell provides comfort and the freedom of movement you need to perform well in many different activities and weather conditions.

windwall

Windwall™ fabrics are engineered to offer flexibility and breathability to cut through wind chill and stay comfortable without overheating.

Xtra Foam

Designed for cushioning support over long distances in the mountains, Endurus trail running and hiking shoes are supported with more foam than ever before thanks to the new XtraFoam™ midsole technology.

ventrix

Ventrix™ is a superior insulation technology that adapts to movements and regulates the temperature, keeping the body warm without overheating. The holes at the key points of the jackets open with movement, allowing excess heat and sweat to escape, and close during rest, allowing the heat to remain inside.

fuseform

FuseForm™ structure is a revolution in pioneering design.

It is lighter, stronger and more durable than ever before.

Vectiv Technology

It converts energy into momentum to move you further.
